Nexus Multicultural Arts Symposium 2010 - Diverse Arts: Theory + Action
Adelaide, 19 - 21 May
The Diverse Arts: Theory + Action symposium will present an invigorating and inspiring mix of keynote speakers, discussion panels and collaborative performances engaging with one or more of the symposium themes:
- Cultural Diversity - how is it driving contemporary arts practice and how is it influencing the contemporary arts landscape?
- Cultural Continuity and Cultural Development
- Community Arts versus Multicultural Arts
- Cultural Innovation and Entrepreneurship: shaping multicultural arts towards 2020
The Diverse Arts: Theory + Action symposium presents a timely opportunity to set benchmarks for multicultural arts. This symposium will provide performing arts practitioners, artistic directors, coordinators, event planners, academics, curators, programmers and writers with an opportunity to hear experts, participate in panel discussions and workshops, and view and critique contemporary performances. Specifically, the symposium will:
- Provide a theoretical context for emerging cultural practices within an international framework of multicultural arts
- Identify key emerging trends, artists and advocates
- Connect participants, presenting organisations and resource networks
- Explore the impact recent migrations have had and are having on music / dance performances as well as the visual arts
- Identify audience development and marketing strategies
The content and form of the Diverse Arts: Theory + Action symposium will place an emphasis on peer-to-peer participation and discussion. The conference will be structured around the delivery of a keynote address and presentations by up to four speakers, as well as an exhibition opening and a small number of high quality multicultural performances, creating the space for discussion and critical feedback from the audience and participants via panels and an open forum.
