Nexus is a contemporary arts organisation based in South Australia generating positive social outcomes by promoting understanding, acceptance and respect, celebrating difference and diversity through the arts. We advocate for, facilitate the development of, and showcase contemporary arts, artists and communities of diverse cultures, to enrich the expression and image of our multicultural Australia.
Our vision is to be Australia’s pre-eminent multicultural arts centre. Our exhibitions, performances and events are designed to attract a wide audience within South Australia and Australia. Parts of our program focus on attracting target audiences such as new migrants, youth, established CALD communities, academics and professional artists.
Nexus was established in 1984 and incorporated in 1985 to:
• produce and showcase multicultural arts for audiences;
• connect diverse communities and bring them into the mainstream;
• present a unique and vibrant program of exhibitions, world music and dance concerts, artist and writing residencies, seminars, forums and interactive workshops.
Nexus is the only specialist multidisciplinary and multicultural arts organisation in South Australia. A not-for-profit organization, we work with numerous communities, cultural groups and artists to help them share their stories, cultures and passions.
Nexus keeps abreast of contemporary multicultural issues to develop and present programs, and to promote and advocate for inclusion of linguistically and culturally diverse artists and communities within mainstream arts.
Nexus’ unique projects are not “art for art’s sake” but aim to create real connections between people by addressing issues of current concern such as the isolation of established migrants, promoting interfaith dialogue, newly emerging communities of migrants including those from Africa and the Middle East and tackling other multicultural issues. Our unique programs entertain, inform, encourage dialogue, celebrate, re-affirm, promote and employ artists of diverse backgrounds.
Nexus is a multi-arts producer, presenter and service provider engaging, nurturing and presenting professional artistic activity. We promote the benefits of cultural diversity to mainstream audiences through innovative, integrated, multi-art form and cross-cultural approaches to the visual and performing arts, projects, workshops and community services.
